In 2023 Tabitha learnt how to ‘marble’ paint at her home on the dining room table. Tabitha began playing with colours, texture and manipulating the swirl patterns when experimenting with the marble technique. It reminded her of those old US textbooks. The ability to not be able to control the outcome of a print, that is each-time unique as are most print outcomes, captured Tabitha’s imagination and ability to learn to ‘let go’ of a process. You can add in all of the elements and play around and then the outcome each time is ‘experimental’. Tabitha created this short series playing with fluidity and the unknown outcome of each piece. Her latest work in ‘Cell series’ is playing on the literal interpretation of scans, cells, related to human biology, in response to some experiences of her close family members, thinking about scientific scans and how this might look to the human eye in colour. Some of them even remind her of coral reefs, relating to ecosystems and what the oceans are facing in terms of mass-extinction.
